What Is the Hop Hop Hop Trend on TikTok?
The squash-and-swap trend for two people and one phone, the slowed Russian song behind it, how it took off, and how to make an AI version from your photos.
Last updated: 2026-10-30
The Hop Hop Hop trend (#hophophop), also called the "gabi trend", is a two-person squash-and-swap routine on TikTok, filmed with one phone in one room. One person stands right at the lens and points back at the other, who hops on the beat far behind. Thanks to forced perspective, the one in front can "press" the far one down with a flat hand until they squat as if squashed. Then a hard cut swaps them and it happens again. The AI version on Hop Hop Hop AI Dance makes the same routine from one or two of your photos, with the trend's slowed sound and no filming.
Is It a Photo Transition or a Dance?
It's a dance, not a photo transition. Other things share the name, from children's bunny songs to editing templates; this page is about the filmed routine where two people hop, squash each other down and swap places. The AI version makes a new video of that routine from one or two photos; it doesn't just squash one still picture into another.
What Happens in the Video, Second by Second
Every post follows the same beats:
- The point. One person stands right at the lens, grins and points back over their shoulder at the other, who stands far behind and hops on the beat.
- The squash. The one at the lens holds a flat hand above the far one's head (as it looks in the picture) and pushes down on the beat. The far one squats lower and lower, as if squashed.
- The swap. A hard cut at about 4.3 seconds, and the two have traded places. The squash happens again the other way round.
The posts are about 8 seconds long and vertical. On the three posts linked on this page, the cut lands between 4.30 and 4.37 seconds and the videos run 7.7 to 8.2 seconds.
Who Started the Hop Hop Hop Trend
- The sound is a TikTok "original sound" by @venadeaakira, first used on Sep 24, 2026, in an edit of pencil sketches.
- The post that made it take off is by @gabilagaba, posted on Oct 18, 2026 with @Kokokrunch and captioned "MY TRRENDD W TWIN". By Oct 30, 2026 it had 3.7M views and 548.2K likes. That's why people also call it the gabi trend.
- The real-people take shown above is by @nirami1 with a friend, posted on Oct 24, 2026, with a caption crediting "inspo by … @gabi". It had 1.4M views and 369.7K likes by Oct 30, 2026.
- The AI version shown above is by @pouzato7, posted on Oct 25, 2026, with two Russian folk-hero characters, Ilya Muromets and Nightingale the Robber. It had 2.6M views and 424.2K likes by Oct 30, 2026, which shows that AI versions of the trend go viral too.
What Song Is Used in the Trend?
The sound is Shluzov's song "Её парень", a Russian track from the album "Любимый сайт", released on Jan 23, 2026 (Apple Music). The title means "Her Boyfriend". On TikTok it's slowed down to about 0.79× speed, which also lowers the pitch, and the slowed sound runs at about 125 BPM. Apple Music marks the track explicit.
Why So Many People Are Doing It
It's short, the moves are simple, and it works with almost anyone. The versions people post include:
- two friends, or a twin or sibling, like the post that made it take off;
- a person and their pet;
- cosplay versions in costume;
- AI versions with characters, like @pouzato7's folk heroes.
How the AI Version Works
Our generator doesn't paste your face onto someone's clip. The AI films the routine new, from a written description of the trend, and the trend's sound is added after the picture is made. Nobody sings or talks in the video, and the AI doesn't copy anyone's real moves frame by frame.
What comes from the trend
- One room, a phone on a tripod that doesn't move, and forced perspective.
- The point back over the shoulder, the hop on the beat, the flat-hand press and the squash.
- The hard cut where you swap places.
- The slowed sound, played from its start. 8 seconds is one swap (two turns), 12 seconds is three turns, and 15 seconds is four turns.
What comes from your photos
- Who starts up front at the lens (photo 1) and who starts far behind, hopping (photo 2).
- With only one photo, you play both places.
- A pet is shown standing upright on its hind legs and using its front paws like hands.
- The backdrop: the AI is asked for an ordinary bright room at home, but it sometimes keeps the background of your photo instead.
